The Institute of Human Virology (IHV) is a local performance site of the Pennsylvania/MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center. HIV prevention and counseling educational trainings coordinated by IHV are available to medical providers and healthcare workers throughout the State of Maryland.

These courses serve to enhance knowledge and skills in working effectively with patients/clients and the community to promote primary and secondary prevention of HIV infection, as well as improving the quality of care for persons living with HIV/AIDS. Risk assessment, harm reduction, communications skills and HIV transmission prevention counseling are included in most courses. The primary sponsor of these classes is the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene AIDS Administration. Support is also provided through the HIV/AIDS Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration through a subcontract with the University of Pittsburgh (Grant #2H4AHA00060-04-00).

In collaboration with the Institute's AIDS Education & Conference Center, the AIDS Administration offers other educational and training opportunities throughout the year, such as Training of Trainers and Partner Notification. Requests for programs should be made by phoning the AIDS Administration Center for Education and Training at 410-767-5073 or IHV AIDS Education & Conference Center at 410-328-8674.
