Audio/Video Help

The following information will explain what is required to view our video and audio files online.

In order to play our videos/audios, you must have RealPlayer’s streaming video player installed on your personal computer. Visit the Real Networks Web site http://www.real.com/realone/?PV=6 and click on the "Free RealOne Player" link in the upper right-hand corner. Follow the instructions for completing the download and installing it on your computer. For more information, visit the Real Networks site for complete download and installation instructions.

If you have any problems downloading or using RealPlayer, go to the Real Networks Web site, http://www.real.com for more information. University of Maryland Medicine staff will not be able to provide any technical assistance.

Additionally, there are two factors that determine how well the video will perform:

  1. Your Internet Connection

The minimum speed for streaming video is 28K, which is the speed of standard modems on home computers. This delivers mediocre quality, but does convey a sense of the video. The higher speeds of 56K and 128K will deliver a higher quality experience, with smoother playback and better sound.

  1. Your Computer Resources

Streaming video requires a fast processor and plenty of memory for best performance. For PC users, a Pentium I processor is the minimum requirement, but a Pentium II, III or IV will provide a much better experience. Macintosh users should have a 68040 or better processor running at least 132 MHz.
