IHV Partners with the Maryland Department of Health
and Mental Hygiene's AIDS Administration
(BALTIMORE, MD) - The Institute of Human Virology (IHV) will offer more than
50 HIV/AIDS education and training courses in 2006 at a dozen sites across Maryland.
The classes, designed for health care professionals, will cover topics related
to HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and case management. Specialized subjects include
HIV in the African American, Latino, faith-based and sexual minority communities,
as well as in the criminal justice system.
The courses include basic classes such as "HIV Resources: What You Need
to Know," and more involved advanced classes such as "HIV Counseling
Skills Level III," which covers addiction as related to HIV/AIDS risks
and counseling strategies.
IHV's AIDS Education & Conference Center has been approved as a continuing
education provider for nurses and social workers. Upon completion of a class,
participants will be awarded certificates and Continuing Education Units (CEU).
The HIV/AIDS training course is sponsored by the Maryland Department of Health
& Mental Hygiene's AIDS Administration in partnership with the Region III
STD/HIV Prevention Training Center.
IHV is one of the local host sites for the Pennsylvania/MidAtlantic AIDS Education
and Training Center (AETC). AETC is a regional organization that designs and
administers HIV/AIDS classes through its network of host universities.
IHV is a center of the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI)
and affiliated with the University
of Maryland School of Medicine.
