The University of Maryland, Institute of Human Virology is one of eleven local performance sites that make up the Pennsylvania/MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center. Our site offers a variety of educational and clinical training opportunities as well as consultation services, thus serving as a vital resource for area providers. Our experienced HIV clinicians and clinical education trainers are able to provide the latest information on prevention, treatment and management of HIV disease to a wide variety of audiences.
The PA/MA AETC utilizes experienced HIV clinicians, researchers and clinical education trainers to provide clinicians involved in HIV care with the latest information on prevention, treatment, and clinical management of HIV diseases. These programs include:
Providers have the opportunity to train at one of our outpatient HIV clinics or at the JACQUES Initiative. The goal is to provide a tailored learning experience for providers to impove skills and patient outcomes. Preceptorships offer providers a personalized experience using a combination of hands on training and direct observation at no cost.

Individualized clinical consultation to address current issues of HIV positive patients to improve patient outcomes, and provide ongoing clinical support for clinicians. Consultations can be accomplished “on-site” or through distance based technologies.

The Institute of Human Virology’s AIDS Education & Training Center is a local performance site of the Pennsylvania/ MidAtlantic AIDS Education Training Center and is designated as one of the federal AIDS Education and Training Centers for Maryland through a subcontract with the University of Pittsburgh. Programs are supported in part by the U.S. Public Health Service HRSA Grant # 5H 4AHA 00060-08-00.
The AETC Program is funded under the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act of 2006 and supports a network of 11 regional training centers. The program conducts targeted, multidisciplinary education and training programs for health care professionals and institutions treating people living with HIV/ AIDS. The Pennsylvania/MidAtlantic AETC serves the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia as well as the District of Columbia.
