Dr. Lori Fantry has a great interest and broad depth of experience and knowledge regarding human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. As the medical director of the Institute of Human Virology/University of Maryland Infectious Diseases Clinic, she has catalyzed the growth of the program from serving 500 patients to more than 1800 patients. She oversees attending physicians, infectious diseases fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, social service personnel, mental health personnel, and nutritional services associated with the clinic.
In addition, she has successfully competed for over a million dollars in Ryan White funding and has served as the principal investigator for all of the antiretroviral expanded access programs associated with the IHV.
Dr. Fantry is also an effective mentor and teacher and enjoys the significant amount of time she spends teaching medical students, residents, infectious diseases fellows, as well as other attending physicians. In particular, she was instrumental in the University's HIV education program as evidenced by the HIV therapeutics lectures she gives to the medical students; the HIV acute care lectures to the medical, family practice and emergency care residents; the HIV lectures to third year medical students; countless hours of teaching in the hospital and in the clinic; and the popular HIV outpatient case conference that she instituted a number of years ago.
