Discovering HIV: The 25th Anniversary

Drs. Robert C. Gallo, director of the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and Luc A. Montagnier, president of the World Foundation for Medical Research and Prevention, are recognized as co-discoverers of HIV.

The 25th anniversary of that discovery was marked in May 2009 with a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., where both scientists encouraged conintued support for HIV research in a global call to action. The news conference was followed by a Symposium and Gala in Baltimore.
